Volunteering During the Pandemic

April 2, 2020

Winston Churchhill said, “You make a living by what you get, you make a life by what you give”. Many readers have asked what they can do to help during these unprecedented times. Below is a list.  Volunteering empowers us in times like these.

If you have suggestions please email : aliciam@macaronikid.com

          1. Join Support Local Businesses on Facebook. Go here to join.  These establishments give back to our community all year.

2    Give blood.. The local red cross is still in need. Please call to set up an appointment to ensure that they can provide social distancing.

  1. Help your children make cards for a nursing home. Nursing home residents love to receive mail. This can also be a chance to practice writing and drawing.
  2. Donate to a local charity. The Keystone Mission is accepting non-perishable food now. They will accept clothes after the Pandemic. Please save your clothes for then.
  3. Donate baby clothes. St Josephs Baby Pantry is always in need of clothes. They accept clothes from newborn to size 12. Sort them now and wait until the pandemic is over to donate them.
  4. Plant a 🌲. This helps everyone! Consider starting a garden. The fruits and vegetables can be donated to a food bank in the future.
  5. Griffin Pond is collecting shoes for a fundraiser. Please save the shoes until the pandemic is over.
  6. Join #MasksNow on Facebook. This organization connects volunteers, sewers, and hospitals. They also need drivers, callers, and other helpers. You do not need to be able to sew! Go here to visit them on Facebook.
  7. Join icloudbe here. This organization helps local students in various ways . They are in need of on line mentors. Volunteers need to commit one hour per week.
  8. Gather books to donate to the local library. The library has s 📚 sale several times a year. The libraries are closed now but will be open when the pandemic is over.

Thank you for your willingness to help these local organizations.
